Victory for Grantham Tennis Club’s first team over Appleby Frodingham

Grantham Tennis Club's men's first team recorded their maiden win of the season after victory over Appleby Frodingham.

The side, which is sponsored by Belvoir Farms, had made the trip to Scunthorpe on a bright day for their second match of the season.

The home side were promoted to the First Division last year so Grantham were unsure how they would fare or what to expect.

The first Grantham pair of Andy Isaac and Jamie Wallace had a great opening round after beating their second pair 6-2, 6-1.

Grantham's second pair of Paul White and Steve Wallace played a tight match against the opposing first pair.

After a hard-hitting first set went to Scunthorpe 6-3, Grantham won the second set 6-1.

The 10-point third set tie break was close but went to the Scunthorpe pair 10-7.

The second round saw Steve and Paul win 6-4, 6-3 against the Scunthorpe second pair and, after a tight match, Andy and Jamie won 6-3, 7-6.

The next match is at home against Grimsby on Saturday, June 22.
