Sudbrook Moor Golf Club round-up
Sudbrook Moor’s Nigel Corby has enjoyed his most successful season of senior matchplay, emerging as the winner of the Ron Boxell Consolation Plate.
Dispatched early summer in round one of the main trophy event by on-form Paul McCarthy, Nigel made his intentions clear that there was an alternative title to play for.
The first round casualties are drawn again to contest the Matchplay Consolation Plate.
Nigel notched up a two-up win in his match with Neil Stokes, which was followed by a 3&2 victory when he met Tony Bell in the semi-final.
Not fazed one bit in the final, Nigel dug deep into his experience, despite needing to give Richard Cocks a shot a hole.
Nigel finished off the match on the 15th green, with a convincing 5&3 result.
Richard's runner-up achievement must be congratulated as part of his first full season of very successful senior golf, matchplay and strokeplay, which included a place in the senior inter-club matchplay team.
In the main matchplay event, Paul McCarthy continued successfully to the quarter finals, where he met eventual 2023 champion, Geoff Back, who has gained the Ron Boxell Trophy for the second time in three years, having beaten Andy Milner 3&2.
The seniors would like to thank David Guy for enthusiastically administrating the two matchplay events over another season.
