Grantham Town sign striker Ryan Rushen from Sleaford Town

Grantham Town have boosted their attacking options by signing prolific striker Ryan Rushen.

The forward has made the switch from Sleaford Town where he worked with Gingerbreads head coach Louis Bland last season.

Rushen netted 22 goals last term for the United Counties League Premier Division North club who are managed by ex-Grantham defender Tom Ward.

Ward had helped Rushen rise through the ranks and was disappointed to lose the striker whose performances had earned a higher level move.

He told the club: "Rushy has had an exceptional attitude since joining us from step seven which has earned him the respect of his team-mates.

"He has listened, worked hard and developed into one of the most productive forwards at step five, scoring 22 goals last season and playing a pivotal role in making history.

"It breaks my heart to announce that he is leaving us, but he has earned his step four opportunity and I am proud to have been part of his journey.

"I will always wish him well and the door will always be open for him to return home."

Rushen is expected to be part of the Grantham squad that takes on Brighouse at the South Kesteven Stadium in the Northern Premier League East Division on Saturday.

Head coach Bland said: "Ryan fits the profile of what we're trying to do.

"Players who have been excellent in the league below and clearly deserve an opportunity at a higher level.

"Fans will love him because he will score goals and his work-rate and desire will never be questioned. "

Sleaford - who recently signed striker Gregg Smith from Grantham - travel to Loughborough Students on Saturday.
