AFC Colsterworth Sports and Social Club make a winning start to Nottinghamshire Senior League campaign

Newly-promoted AFC Colsterworth Sports and Social Club got their Nottinghamshire Senior League campaign off to a winning start on Saturday.

The Apples defeated Keyworth United Reserves 5-3 in their first match in Division One after last season's title-winning campaign.

They took an early lead when Marley Okoth's pinpoint cross was headed home by man of the match Alfie Sheen and the advantage was doubled shortly after with a tidy finish from Junior Gaskin.

Keyworth pulled a goal back but the Apples reacted quickly when Sam Scothern headed in Gaskin's corner to restore Colsterworth's two-goal advantage.

Once again though Keyworth reduced the deficit to one goal right on the stroke of half-time to make it 3-2 at the interval.

The away side came out stronger in the second half and eventually earned themselves a penalty to equalise.

The Apples never stopped believing they could win the game and, when a Conor MacGregor free kick took a touch off a Keyworth player's head resulting in an own goal, there were celebrations in the home dugout.

To seal the victory, once again MacGregor stepped up to deliver a brilliant free kick which Scothern got on the end of to make the final score 5-3.
