Grantham Running Club’s Rick Dobbs competes in new year race at Cleethorpes

Grantham Running Club’s Rick Dobbs returned home with two personal bests after he made the trip over to the seaside town of Cleethorpes for their new year event.

Dobbs was running for the third time at his home-town event where 490 runners took the streets.

Organised by Cleethorpes AC, the course was flat, fast but exposed to the elements in a few places.

The course consisted of two small laps, starting at the leisure centre, before heading away on a larger loop to finish on the seafront.

With a strong wind on a few sections of the course, the breeze was nowhere near as bad as was forecast.

Rick came home in a time of 45:52, which was a 32-second 10k personal best and a seven minute and 36-second course best.

He said: "I went out too hard for the first mile and suffered for it later on, but I'm happy with my time and excited for what the year ahead brings - hopefully some warmer events."

Matt Bowser of Lincoln Wellington AC took the overall win in a time of 31:49 for his fifth victory at the event.

Sophie Wallis of Lincoln Wellington AC took the female victory in a time of 33:35.
