Sudbrook Moor Golf Club round-up

Roy Nelson returned an exceptional scorecard of 44 points in the senior monthly Super Stableford Series at Sudbrook Moor.

Enthusiastic Roy could not have been more delighted to find himself well clear of the large field, for this is an accumulator of monthly points in an Order of Merit, colloquially named The SSSS.

After 10 monthly scores, later in November, the Ken Jameson Trophy - the seniors Claret Jug - will be awarded for the top aggregate score of each player's best six rounds.

Roy is off to a great start, already four points ahead of the next best, Barry Smith, and Ian Mason, both on 40.

There were divisional prizes and recognition for the best of the front and back nine scores.

Best front nine went to Christopher Henley with 22 points while Simon Gray's 22 took the plaudits for the best back nine.

The weekly optional twos sweep was shared 10 ways - on the third by Phil Keogh and Bob Watson, on the sixth by Christopher Henley, Martin Whistler, Andy Dunderdale, Simon Gray and Ian Mason; on the 12th by Peter Stoneman and Phil Keogh and on the 15th by Simon Gray.

The early 2024 Order of Merit: Roy Nelson, 44; Barry Smith and Ian Mason 40; John Came, 39; Andy Dunderdale, Simon Gray, Peter Stoneman and Pete Armstrong, all on 38; Sue Watson and Steve Squires, both on 37.

Last year’s title holder of the Ken Jameson Claret Jug, Andy Dunderdale, is making his mark among the best, with his first scorecard of 38 points.
