Grantham Running Club take part in the Coasters 10k at Butlin’s in Skegness

Eight Grantham Running Club members headed to the sunny sights of Skegness for the return of the Coasters 10k.

The sun shone for the start of the event at Butlin’s but soon clouded over on a cold day.

The route started at the Pig and Whistle to take runners out of the caravan park, before re-entering again to do a loop through two sites.

On entering back into the first caravan site, runners took more loops around the park before approaching the finish line which was back at the Pig and Whistle after a twisty but very flat course.

First back for Grantham was Gavin Potter in a time of 37:38.

Gavin was using this race as a steady training run for the London Marathon in April.

Second back was Robin Atter in a time of 42:06.

Sam Caton was out to get 52 minutes but came home in an impressive time of 49:13, closely followed by Marj Spendlow who last completed this race back in 2022 not long after joining Grantham Running Club.

Marj completed in an impressive time of 50:25, giving her a new 10k personal best overall.

Kate Thompson, who is still recovering from an injury but was told to take it steady doing this run, was going alright until the niggles in her knee started to show but she still completed it in a time of 59:28.

Other Grantham members included Anne Fleming (55:57) and Martin Carter (56:45), who was happy with his time.

Wayne Baxter loved the friendly atmosphere to finish in a time of 1:01:33 which he was really pleased with considering the lack of training.

The overall winner was Ryan Page in a time of 33:25.
