Heavy defeat for Grantham Town against Bedworth United in their final match as a Northern Premier League club
A turbulent season ended in their heaviest defeat of the campaign for relegated Grantham Town on Saturday.
The Gingerbreads went down to a 6-1 home humbling by Bedworth United in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division match at the Meres.
The defeat left Grantham marooned at the foot of the table, 22 points adrift of safety after a season to forget for the Gingerbreads.
They last won a league game back in October and had four different managers at the helm during the campaign.
Louis Bland started the season in charge after leading Grantham to a great escape from relegation last term.
He was replaced by chairman Paul Rawden who then handed over the managerial reins to Nathan Arnold who departed the club recently following the announcement of a planned takeover.
Academy boss Tom Ford has taken charge of the last three games and a youthful Grantham side were put to the sword by the Greenbacks on Saturday.
They fell behind in the 14th minute to a goal from Louis Monaghan before Leo Stones doubled the visitors' advantage just before half-time.
A penalty from Liam O'Brien extended Bedworth's advantage six minutes into the second half before Monaghan netted his second and the visitors' fourth of the match.
Jonathan Letford then netted twice in three minutes to complete the scoring for Bedworth with Grantham's consolation being sandwiched between his quick-fire double.
A decent move down the left saw Tom Pawson's cross volleyed home by Lewis Darlington who finished the season as Grantham's top scorer after netting 10 times.
Attention will now turn to a crucial close season for the Gingerbreads as they look to get back on track both on and off the pitch ahead of the new campaign with the United Counties League Premier Division North their expected destination.
