Sam Grundy of Witham Wheelers take part in the National Youth and Junior Track Championships at Lee Valley Velodrome

Witham Wheeler Sam Grundy has had a successful time at the National Youth and Junior Track Championships at Lee Valley Velodrome.

His racing started with the match sprint which saw him exit the competition at the last 16 stage, leaving mostly senior riders to compete from the quarter-finals onwards.

His fortunes changed with an excellent 16th place finish out of 56 in the 500m time trial.

Grundy set two personal bests in the process and recorded some of the fastest lap and half-lap splits in the competition.

He closed the week as he joined forces with riders from ESV Manchester and Crawley Wheelers to compete in the Team Sprint, finishing superbly with a bronze medal.

This was Grundy's first year at the National Championships and it has given him a huge amount of hope for the next campaign.
