Stoke Rochford Golf Club round-up




Captain and treasurer Mike Nixon outlined another successful year of competitions and matches in his report at Stoke Rochford Golf Club's seniors' annual meeting.

He highlighted the success of the team, having won all of their 14 home matches.

Mike presented the Captain's Cup to Don Werner for his outstanding contribution to the section over the years.

Glyn Staines was elected seniors captain for 2024 with Steve Major his vice-captain.

Following the annual meeting, the Winter Warmers competition was a pairs Stokesome where 26 players participated in cold but good conditions.

Winners were Darren Spiby, marking his debut with Stoke seniors in fine style, by partnering Don Werner to 47 points. John Hitchman and Alan Dolby were second with 45 points while Chris Vose and Steve Major finished third in countback with 41.

After 13 rounds, top of the leaderboard is Don Werner with 46 points, Darrell Knight has 44, Maurice Way and Steve Major have 36. Leader in the Slack Goblet is still Reg Hughes with 11 single points.

This is centenary year at Stoke Rochford and the seniors are organising two Open Championships, a singles event on May 15 and a pairs competition on July 10.

Members of other clubs are invited to compete and can enter online through the club website.
