TENNIS: Grantham club’s mixed team triumph at home
Grantham Tennis Club’s mixed winter first team won at their Arnoldfield home at the weekend.
The side, consisting of Richard Cragg and Sarah Patton, Simon Cormor and Megan Jones, and Mark Harris and Mel Bloodworth played against a very strong West Bridgford B team but managed to claim a 64-44 victory overall.
The win keeps the Grantham team’s hopes high for the rest of the season and an eventual top placing.
l The boys’ 16-and-under team of Hugo Jagger, Kevin Mason, Jack Rusby and Noah Briggs took on Newark away in a winter league match.
Despite it being their first ever match, the boys performed well overall but Newark came out on top, 20-11.
Grantham’s third mixed indoor Nottingham League team played away at Lady Bay 3rd.
The Grantham side comprised captain Rob Isaac, Nigel Birch, Jo Jones and Sue Cox, and achieved a very comfortable win, only dropping three sets in the entire match.
With mixed results in the league, the team will now be hoping for the highest finish possible with only a few matches left to play.
