Sleaford Town lost 2-0 against Sherwood Colliery in the United Counties League Premier Division North match in front of 109 who attended the match at Longwater Stadium in Lincolnshire

A very frustrating afternoon was how officials at Sleaford Town described their 2-0 loss against Sherwood Colliery in the United Counties League Premier Division North match.

109 attended the match as The Greens welcomed The Wood to Longwater Stadium for the home side's first game in over three weeks.

Sleaford Town played well defensively in the first-half as they thwarted attacks from the visitors who are currently first in the competiton.

The league leaders were held to a 0-0 tie up until half-time before being reduced to nine men in the second-half.

Sherwood Colliery's Jamie York was red-carded for alledgely stamping in the 56th minute — shortly after his teammate Carter Widdowson was also given his marching orders for a foul.

The Wood's tenacity came to the forefront as despite being at a big disadvantage, they still managing to walk away with a 2-0 victory.

The goals did not come until the last minutes of the game as Ewan Robson converted a penalty for the visitors in the 83rd minute before Brad Wells scored from 25 yards out in the dying stages.

"For sixty minutes we did exactly what we planned to do, we frustrated them and we found little pockets in certain areas," said joint manager of Sleaford Town, Tom Ward.

"In the first-half they had quite a bit of ball but we punished them in certain ways, we got in behind them and had some half-chances.

"In the second-half we came out and did the same thing.

"We continued to frustrate them, I felt like it was starting to come.

"I thought like we had a chance of coming away with a 1-0 win.

"The game changed on the red card when they got their man sent off and we readjusted what we were trying to do, we tried to be more positive on the ball.

"We got a very soft penality called against us, then we are 1-0 and we are hurting.

"We were very disappointed with the decision but it is what it is, sometimes you get them and sometimes you don't, that is probably what beat us.

"It is frustrating that we didn't come away with anything.

"I thought we were good for 0-0 as a bare minimum."
