Members of Belvoir Tri Club take on the triple crown challenge at the Cotswold Classic
Three members of Belvoir Tri Club tackled the triple crown challenge at the Cotswold Classic.
Already completed the 5.25 mile swim in Lake Coniston, Marijke De Groot, John Bateson and Rob Splashett entered the next part of the challenge which was Ullswater 7.5 mile end to end race.
This time, the swim was a little unexpected and all three members faced challenges along the way.
De Groot noted that the water was colder and more choppy than expected which made this challenge harder.
Leaky and foggy goggles should be a thing of the past, but sadly not for Bateson who spent some time making adjustments to make provisions to see better which spurred him on to try and pick up the pace to the finish.
He was first home for the club in 04:25:49 with De Groot next in 04:54:34 and Splashett completing the event in 04:39:02.
Mary Mason headed over to Chester to compete in the Deva Divas triathlon, which is a ladies only event that provides athletes with the option to also take on a quadrathlon or aquabike race.
The swim was down the picturesque River Dee for 750 metres. Unfortunately, after attempting to front crawl, Mary felt unwell so completed the swim with her signature lady breaststroke. She finished in 02:21:50 with a very well-deserved medal.
She commented: "I loved this race. It was very friendly and fabulous for anyone who wants to try an open water event.
"I highly recommend it because it was well organised with a fantastic atmosphere. I shall definitely be taking part again next year."
Ruth and Steve Moore popped over to Rutland to tackle the hills around the Whissendine 6ix.
It was a sell-out event which is popular with local running clubs. It was a friendly race that saw the locals of Whissendine out on the streets cheering on runners as they made their way through the village and out towards the first ascent of the course.
First home was Steve in 47:44 followed by Ruth in 54:55 who set herself a new 5k personal best.
