Shaun Balfe hoping for race win in the British GT Championship at Donington Park this weekend
Fulbeck’s Shaun Balfe heads to Donington Park this weekend for the penultimate round of the British GT Championship.
Balfe and co-driver Adam Smalley have already sealed this year’s Pro Am title in their Garage 59-run McLaren 720S GT3 Evo.
The duo, who sit third in the overall standings, tested at Donington a couple of weeks ago.
“Both me and Adam were comfortable with the car’s balance and set-up, better than at the last round,” said Balfe.
“We have to go all out for a win though and we’re starting without a pitstop success penalty this time.
“When we raced here earlier in the year we only finished 12 seconds off the lead with a 20-second penalty, so we know we have got what it takes.
“But we need some luck too, especially in qualifying, as it’s so important to get a good start.
“I am not too bothered about the weather, but I would like it to be okay for family, friends, supporters and spectators who will be there this weekend.
“We just need to rely on our engineer, to make sure we are on the right tyres, and go out and prove ourselves.”
There’s free practice on Saturday before qualifying at 4.15pm and 4.29pm, just 10 minutes for each driver. Sunday’s warm-up is 9.40am and the race is lights out for two hours from 1pm.
Shaun’s son Tom will also be back in action, seeking further success in the Ginetta Academy. He qualifies on Saturday morning, and races at 5.20pm the same day and 11.44am and 5.40pm on Sunday.
