Royal British Legion raises record-breaking £13k as generosity of Holbeach community shines through
A town has raised thousands of pounds for a charity that helps veterans and those in the armed forces.
The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal in Holbeach totalled more than £13,000 and organisers are thrilled with the record response.
The charity provides financial, social and emotional support to members and veterans of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants.
Alan Sheppard, chairman of the Holbeach branch, said: “Many people continue to struggle with the cost of living and the generosity of the Holbeach community shows how the poppy appeal’s message of caring for those in need is more relevant than ever.
“Thank you to everyone who made a donation large or small.”
Several volunteers have helped with the fundraising by giving their time to help out on tables in stores, schools and venues that had collecting tins on display.
Mr Sheppard has organised fundraising for the charity for a number of years and is keen to appeal for more volunteers to help in the future.
