More than 800 attended Give It A Go day at Carter’s Park, Holbeach
Families and friends were able to try out new sports and activities during a fun-filled day out.
More than 800 people went along to the Give It A Go Day at Carter’s Park in Holbeach, which had been organised by South Holland District Council.
Holbeach Hub, Silver Spoon Bowmen archery club, Holbeach Amateur Theatrical Society (HATS) and Long Sutton Hockey Club were among the 13 community groups and clubs took part.
The hockey club won the tug of war competition which had been organised by council chairman Andrew Woolf.
Coun Andrew Woolf said: “The day was a great success with many people coming along to Carter’s Park to try their hand at something new. From wall climbing, to hockey, bowling and singing, there was so much for people to try.
“The children especially appeared to be enjoying all of the activities, and for my Charity Tug-o-War competition, it was great fun to see the teams of all ages putting their strength to the test.
“Congratulations to the winners Long Sutton Hockey Club who narrowly beat the firemen in the final. Thank you also to every who put money in the charity buckets - this will further help Blood Cancer UK and Mencap.
“And a final thank you and well done goes to the Communities team for making the whole event a great day out.”
Community groups such as Holbeach Hub promoted their services during the day.
Sam Collins, youth coordinator and wellbeing manager at Holbeach Hub, has said that numbers attending their youth club had doubled.
Mr Collins said: “It was great to be getting the word out about the hub and show people all the different groups and services that we do.
“The numbers were great and it was amazing to see the community coming together.”
Mr Collins organised bracelet making with youngsters and was able to talk to people about what the hub can offer such as a safe space, advice about domestic abuse and Bro Pro, a men’s mental health group on Thursday evenings.
Feedback has been positive for the annual event where groups members from HATS performed on stage and visitors signed up to try new groups.
