Holbeach group looking to put on ghost walks and is appealing for actors

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a spooky spectre or a ghastly ghoul? Then you could be just the person a new amateur dramatics group is looking for.

Phoenix Theatrix, which launched in Holbeach a few months ago, is seeking more actors to join its ranks ahead of its first event – a gruesome Ghost Walk through the town at the end of October.

The community group is keen to get more people involved ahead of the spooky spectacular and chairman Helen Verney said anyone is welcome to attend its forthcoming open auditions to try out for the roles.

“We’d love to hear from anyone who would like to be involved whether acting as a ghost or telling ghost stories,” she said. “We’ve pretty much set up what we’re going to be doing around Holbeach, we’ve got some great stories and scripts ready – based on things that have happened and maybe some that are potentially true!”

Auditions for the Ghost Walk are due to take place at Holbeach Hub, Boston Road South, on Sunday, September 1, at 6.30pm and Wednesday, September 4, at 7.30pm with tickets for the event going on sale at the end of September.

Helen added that the group is also planning Rapunzel as its first pantomime, which is scheduled to take place in February half term 2025. There will be a read through on Sunday, September 8 at 6.30pm, with auditions for this show to be held on Sunday, September 15, at 6.30pm and Wednesday, September 25, at 7.30pm, both at the Holbeach Hub.

“It’s an exciting time for us,’” added Helen, “we’re a fun and friendly group of like-minded people who wanted to create this group. We have a number of members already, but we’re keen for more to come and join us. We’re open to all ages and all abilities. We’re looking for actors, singers and dancers but people don’t need to be skilled in all three areas. We also have opportunities for people to help out behind the scenes as backstage hands and technical support too.”
