‘I do get myself in a state. It’s embarrassing!’ Scamblesby man who drunkenly swore at police in Wragby apologises to court

A man who drunkenly swore at police officers admitted he was ‘out of my mind and out of order’.

Jason Gallagher broke down in tears in court this week as he told magistrates he had turned to drinking after losing seven members of his foster family in a house fire.

“I’m struggling. I’m on my own and don’t have anyone,” said the 40-year-old.

“I grew up with foster families. I was never adopted. They were like my family and I’ve lost them all.”

Gallagher, of Mill Lane Scamblesby, pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk and disorderly in a public place, relating to an incident in Wragby Market Place on September 17.

“It was 8pm and police received calls about a male being inappropriate,” prosecutor Marie Stace told Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (November 20).

“When they arrived they saw Mr Gallagher coming out of a kebab shop. The officer approached and he began swearing at the officer.

“He told him to f*ck off and called him a c*nt. He was then arrested.”

Gallagher apologised for his actions, adding: “I’m ashamed of my behaviour. I was out of my mind and out of order.

“I haven’t dealt with things well. When I drink I’m not violent but I do get myself in a state. It’s embarrassing.

“Things are difficult but I’m trying and getting there slowly.”

The court heard Gallagher, who received Universal Credit, was now engaging with a mental health support team.

He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
