Horncastle man loses job of two days after drug driving ban

A man caught drug driving has been banned from the roads and ordered to pay £253.

Jamie Mullenger will also lose a job he had started two days earlier, he told a court.

The 35-year-old Horncastle resident was acting in an ‘erratic’ manner when police spotted his Volkswagen Golf at Tumby, prosecutor Lottie Tyler told Boston magistrates.

“It was 3pm on October 29 when the defendant was stopped driving his vehicle,” she said.

“He appeared to be erratic and police requested a sample. He was tested for cannabis.”

Mullenger, of madely Close, gave a reading of 217 micrograms of the drug per litre of blood. The legal limit is 50mcg.

In defence, marc Hudson said: “He was driving to see his father when he was stopped and he now has to pay the consequences.

“Two days ago he started a new job, for which he needed a driving licence. It was his first job since August.”

Magistrates asked Mullenger whether he was aware of how long cannabis stayed in the system, to which he replied: “I am now.”

He was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.”
