Angela Nicholson pleads for Lincolnshire bikers to ride in 20th-anniversary memorial event at Tattershall Bridge for son Dale, killed in motorbike accident at 17

A mother is pleading for the county’s biker communities to help with a memorial event for her son, who died in a motorcycle accident at 17.

Dale Nicholson was described as an “outgoing” boy by his mother Angela, so when he died after an accident at Tattershall Bridge on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 she was left heartbroken.

“Dale was on his motorbike going to work in the early hours of the morning, and a drunken pedestrian walked out in front of him trying to take his own life, but he took my son’s life instead,” she said.

“He didn’t stand a chance, he ended up with brain stem damage.”

Each year, the mother decorates the crash site as well as Dale’s grave not only on the anniversary but on Christmas and birthdays.

“I’m not able to give him what I give any of my other children, and it’s heart-breaking.”

She felt as though something had been taken from not just her, but Dale's siblings Damian, Stephen, Lisa and Shane.

Angela is planning to do something extra special for the 20th anniversary of his death and is calling on bikers from across the county and beyond to turn up at the Tattershall Picnic Area at around 11.40am ready to ride past the crash site and sound their horns in tribute.

“He loved his motorbikes, and before he passed away he applied to join the RAF.

“After he died, the letter came through to say he had been accepted,” Angela recalled.

In addition to the motorcycle tribute, there will be a reunion at the Coach and Horses pub in Billinghay at midday.
