Pinchbeck, Crowland, Spalding and Donington youngsters feature in our lookback




We are once again taking you back on a trip down memory lane to 1994 and 2009.

Roman history was brought to life for pupils at St Guthlac’s School in Crowland in 2009.

Year 7 pupils took a step back in time when they got the chance to try on armour and handle weapons.

Re-enactment group Legion 14 paid a visit to the school in 2009 when students were also shown examples of clothing, weapons and other artefacts during the session which tied in with their studies.

Head of history Rebecca Wilson said the children enjoyed the day.

Pinchbeck Church Funds received a £550 boost thanks to a Christmas Bazaar in 2009.

Organised by church warden Aileen Workman and friend Pat Lake, the bazaar offered something for everyone’s Christmas shopping needs.

The event included games and stalls for visitors to browse around.

Mrs Workman said: “We had a great time and we were so well supported by all the groups that use the hall. It was lovely.”

Brownies cooked up a Christmas storm as part of their badge work in 2009.

Members of Pinchbeck 1st Brownies baked up batches of snowman cookies and decorated them during a special session in Spalding.

Youngsters worked in pairs to bake the delicious biscuits before icing them.This session followed on from the girls gaining their ICT badge earlier in the year.

Spalding Parish Church was getting into the spirit of Christmas by hosting two concerts in 2009. South Lincolnshire Youth Strings, Spalding Junior Strings Orchestra, Spalding Violin Ensemble and Spalding Cello Ensemble along with Lincolnshire Youth Cello were getting ready to perform a Christmas concert.

They were followed later in the week by a festival of jazz featuring South Lincs Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Both events followed on from the Wider Opportunities Projects.

Donington cub scouts welcomed three new leaders to their pack in 1994.

Pack leader Jane Hibbitt had to give up her position due to finding a new job in London.

She handed the reins over to Maureen Smith, Stephen Flannery and Kay
Bemrose during a special meeting of the cubs.

Up to 30 youngsters in Gosberton took part in the village church’s nativity play in 1994.

The children worked hard to put on a nativity concert with a rap twist.

Youngsters, pictured above, were members of the Sunday School, Get Together and Springboard groups which were connected to the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul.
