Spalding Santa Sleigh visits and Tydd St Mary Egyptian Day are part of our lookback




School pupils celebrating their academic achievement and an Egyptian day all feature in this week's nostalgia picture spread.

Parents in Kirton were praised for their valuable and vital support to Middlecott School in 1994.

Headteacher Gerald Walters said their support was valuable amid concern about the number of teachers and headteachers nationally seeking early retirement.

At the annual prizegiving, he said parents ensure children attended school, were well presented, well mannered and followed school rules.

The school enjoyed a busy year in 1994 with six Gold award members of the school's Duke of Edinburgh Award Group and two teachers went on an expedition to Nepal and the education compact partnership with Boston College and De Montfort University was launched.

Pupils achieved outstanding results in sport, including basketball, while English students had poems published.

Meanwhile families across the district were eagerly listening out for Christmas carols as Santa's special sleigh made its way around the area in 1994.

The Rotary Club of South Holland had taken their flashy sleigh across Spalding, Pinchbeck and Moulton to raise more than £3,000 for good causes.

Fundraising committee chairman Clive Benson said at the time: "I think it is nice when people are pleased to see you.

"I remember one year when we were going around on a very misty night and the sleigh looked magical coming through the mist with the lights on."

Moving onto 2009, parents and grandparents were delighted with the performances by youngsters in their nativity play.

Every child at Holbeach St Marks Primary School, from the smallest infant to the tallest 11-year-old, took part in the production.

Born in a Barn was performed to tumultuous applause from friends and family who packed into the village hall.

The small cast of 37 pupils made the most of the script, which included animal parts as well as the traditional principle parts.

There was also an interlude of desert dance performed by six children.

A clever "mockumentary" in the style of The Office took the top award at an Oscars-style night at Spalding Grammar School in 2009.

Pupils with a flair for filmmaking had their work judged by teachers Stephen Roberts, Jessica Jones and Glyn Malvey as the school put on an event to recognise student achievements.

They picked out "My School Life" by Lewis Livingstone and Ryan Gilmartin as the best overall film.

The media-savy students shot a film based around their own quest to make a film about their school.

Awards were also handed out for the best editing, camera work and script along with acting.

Guest speaker at the event was Peter Ryde, a former teacher who worked for Lincolnshire Film Archive.

Tydd St Mary Primary School Key Stage two pupils enjoyed an Egyptian day as their studies on the period came to an end in 2009.

Egyptian clothing was the dress code as company History Off The Page came in and gave the children a taste of the Egyptian market place with a morning of arts and crafts. Activities included making plaited bread, frescos and scarab beetles.

The afternoon saw the hall transformed into the market place and the children participated in the "role play of the Nile".

Teacher Mark Spellman said that an enjoyable day was had by all.

Parents, staff and pupils at a Spalding nursery were celebrating in 2009 after receiving a glowing report from Ofsted inspectors.

Wygate Foundation Nursery School was visited by inspectors who rated the overall quality of provision as good with the children having their needs met.

Inspector David Jones highlighted effective leadership, good team work and excellent links with parents, which ensured the children were happy, included and well cared for.

The nursery, in the grounds of Spalding Primary School, opened its doors in 2002 and cared for a maximum of 42 children.
