Spalding and Saracen's Head teenagers were Look of 2009 winners




We are rolling back the years to 2009 when teenagers won a modelling contract and youngsters called for drivers to slow down.

Here are four stories from the Lincolnshire Free Press in 2009, the year that Matt Smith was announced as Doctor Who and Terry Wogan left the Radio 2 Breakfast show.

Spalding’s James (19) and Sarah (17), of Saracen’s Head, were chosen from 16 hopefuls at the glittering finals night held at Spalding nightclub, Loaded.

They received a host of amazing prizes including a professional photoshoot, a year’s free hairdressing and a contract with NJ Model Management.

The judging panel included former winners Katy Worth and Harry Bingham.

Deepings School of Dancing were gearing up to delight audiences with a big performance.

Pupils of all ages were due to perform an exciting mixture of ballet, tap, modern jazz and acrobatic dance at The Deepings Show.

Tickets were snapped up almost immediately with part of the proceeds from the show going towards the construction of a new multi-purpose community building The Orchard in Spalding Road.

Former students returned to the Gleed Boys School for a special prizegiving ceremony.

Guest speaker was old boy Martin Hudson, who was the chief executive of Flamingo Holdings, and he also made the presentations.

Special mention was given to Kims Kacegarovs and Tom Rodgers, who achieved high grades along with Frank Skol, who joined the school the previous year when he spoke little English but achieved three Bs and a C. Edward Lattimore was presented with the Betty Hasler award.

Villagers in Moulton Seas End were demanding action to be taking over speeding through the village.

Parents and children at the village school joined calls to stop drivers from continually speeding.

Concerns were also raised about the lack of footpaths.
