MEMORY LANE: Grantham’s original leisure centre was short lived

This is the shell of Grantham’s original leisure centre which was under construction on Union Street in 1981.

Costing £1m, the centre incorporated the former Quincentenary Swimming Pool.

The complex was only around for 10 years, until Asda redeveloped the site for its supermarket.

Asda did, however, finance the new leisure centre on Trent Road.
