NOSTALGIA: Quadring chess champs and Crowland pancake fun in 1996

Quadring Primary School youngsters were chess champions 25 years ago this week.

Teams from the school entered the annual Lincolnshire Primary Schools County Team Chess Championships at Old Leake and scooped three honours.

They won the Under-11 Small School section and the Under-11 Girls’ section and were runners-up in the Under-9 section. It was the second year in a row that the school had won two titles in the competition.

Crowland youngsters got a taste of pancake day a week early 25 years ago when mums and their little ones joined in the fun at the Safety Pin mother and pre-school group.

The Snowden Field pavilion on Thorney Road was the venue for the event, where youngsters took part in pancake races with cardboard replicas while the mums raced with the real thing.

Winner was Anita Hooper, who took home pancake mix and lemon juice.
