Spalding's enterprising teenagers feature in our Lookback to 1994 and 2009




Young entrepreneurs were looking for ways to help their business tick along, back in 1994.

This week, we are once again delving into our archives to look back at 1994 and 2009.

Sixth formers at Spalding Grammar School are adding a new dimension to the world of business with their young enterprise company in 1994.

Thirteen lower sixth pupils formed Dimensions in the national scheme which aims to give students a taste of business life.

Assistant managing director Jamie French said the group was making and selling clocks from records and acrylic shapes.

The group also made key fobs and hoped to get advertising from local firms.

The Weekday After School Project celebrated its first birthday in 1994.

The project, based at Spalding Youth Club, was aimed at families where parents are working or have childcare needs in the hours immediately after school.

Activities included horse riding, gardening and bowling.

Puppets promoted friendship when a ventriloquist visited Sutton Bridge’s Westmere Primary School in 2009.

David Watterson introduced youngsters to the world of puppetry as part of the school’s anti-bullying friendship week.

The visit kicked off a week of friendship events, which included Feel Good Friday when youngsters took part in a series of indvidual workshop activities.

Class teacher Susan Machin said the visit was a real treat for the whole school.

Youngsters at a Spalding nursery got in the spirit of Children in Need.

Puddleducks dressed up and painted their faces in 2009 to do their bit for the charity.
