Lincolnshire restaurants miss out on a place in the Harden's Top 100 Best UK Restaurants while Hambleton Hall in Rutland is ranked 43rd

Lincolnshire foodies might think they’re spoiled for choice when it comes to restaurants, but none of the county’s eateries have made the top 100 in a new guide

The Harden's Top 100 Best UK Restaurants is based on customer feedback rather than the views of professional inspectors and was published today (Wednesday, December 13).

While the East Midlands appears three times in the top 100, none of those businesses are based in Lincolnshire.

Just across the border, Rutland fares slightly better with Hambleton Hall ranked 43rd in the country, with chef director Aaron Patterson still at the helm after 30 years of service.

Peter Harden, co-founder of Harden’s, said: “Hambleton Hall has very much become a regular fixture of the top 100 owing to the consistency of the high quality food provided by Aaron Patterson in his 30 plus years of service.”

Described as a quintessential country house, the guide describes Hambleton Hall as “pleasantly old fashioned” with stunning views. It says: “A perfect setting in which to enjoy a significant occasion, with magnificent service and a glorious setting” plus a “varied and well-chosen wine list, backed up by the excellent sommelier Dominique Baduel”.

The guide was collated from 30,000 reports which were submitted by 2,500 diners.

The other restaurants in the region making the top 100 are Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham at number 39 and John’s House in Montsorrel, Leicestershire, at 78. Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria took the number one spot.

Fish and chip shops are faring better though in the county. The Takeaway of the Year finalists for the 2024 edition of the National Fish and Chip Awards were recently published with Marina Fish and Chips, Skegness, representing the county. It beat off competition from Catch 22 in Tattershall, Angells Fisheries in Newark-on-Trent, Pips chips in Cleethorpes and Linfords Traditional Fish and Chips in Market Deeping.
