Teaching status awarded to United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust to boost training and care
Lincolnshire’s hospitals have been recognised with teaching status to boost training and innovation.
United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust has been awarded teaching hospital status, which bosses hope will enhance both patient care and the county’s healthcare workforce.
After a detailed application, the trust, which oversees hospitals in Lincoln, Boston and Grantham, will be called United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Chief executive Dr Karen Dunderdale said: “Achieving teaching hospital status is a real achievement for the trust. It demonstrates the importance we place on the development of our workforce.”
A Visiting Professor of Nursing at the University of Lincoln, Karen emphasised how this status supports the growth of their training and education initiatives.
The award is expected to boost the trust’s reputation and attract top-tier talent to Lincolnshire.
Chief medical officer Dr Colin Farquharson believes the new status will elevate patient care standards.
“I am certain that the organisation’s inclusion in this prestigious category of hospitals will further enhance our ability to attract top-tier talent, engage in ground-breaking research and innovation,” Colin said.
Collaboration with universities will ensure progress in healthcare delivery across Lincolnshire.
The trust’s chairperson, Elaine Baylis, praised the work already being done in training staff, from medics to support workers.
“Our training and education offer has gone from strength to strength in recent years,” Elaine said.
She added that the new title reinforces their commitment to staff development and patient care.
Director of medical education Dr Suresh Babu sees this as a milestone for the trust, which has trained healthcare professionals for 25 years.
“Adding the word ‘teaching’ to our trust name will generate an enormous amount of pride and joy,” Suresh said.
He emphasised the trust’s ambition to train future healthcare professionals.
