One You Lincolnshire wants people to join its 28-day 21.4 minute challenge to be more active
Two-thousand people are needed to join a new year challenge to help them become more physically active in 2024.
One You Lincolnshire wants those who sign up to move for 21.4 minutes a day, to achieve 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity a week.
Those who sign up will start the free 28-day challenge on Monday, January 8, well after Christmas decorations are put away and the last of the festive food has been eaten.
Nigel Stephenson, physical activity lead at healthy lifestyle provider One You Lincolnshire, said: “We hope that this challenge will inspire more people across Lincolnshire to move more.

“Moderate intensity physical activity is classed as any movement that leaves you slightly puffed out, but still able to hold a conversation.
“As well as individuals, we’re hoping it’s something that workplaces might also take on together, both for a bit of competition and to encourage each other to become a bit more active and healthier.”
To encourage people during the 28 days, participants will receive encouraging weekly emails as well as free access to gloji gym, a digital platform with a range of live and on-demand classes.
Participants will also be linked to other ideas and ways in which they might be able to become more active.
“Everyone taking part will receive a tracking sheet and a weekly survey on which they will be asked to record the amount of activity they have managed to complete each day and across the whole week,” added Nigel.
To register, people need an email address and can fill in the form here.
The NHS recommends adults aged between 19 and 64 do some physical activity each day – aiming in total for at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise each week.
Active Lincolnshire, a charity funded by Sport England to increase participation in sports and physical activity across the county, has found that around 190,000 Lincolnshire adults do less than 30 minutes of physical activity each week.
The charity’s annual report suggests only 58% of the county’s more than 750,000 residents hit that target – 5% below the national average. It says the cost of living crisis has affected people’s ability to be active.
Hundreds of thousands of people are officially classed as ‘inactive’ in Lincolnshire because they don’t manage 30 minutes of activity a week.
