Lindum and Minster Medical Practice likely to get approval for three-storey care home in Lincoln

Plans for a three-storey Lincoln care home are set to be approved next week.

The application would create a 59-bed facility on Cabourne Avenue to meet the demand for elderly and dementia care.

It has been proposed for land next to the Lindum and Minster Medical Practice, on the Ermine East.

The plans have been submitted by the Glenholme Health Group which says the facility would ease pressure of medical services and provide round-the-clock care.

Planning documents say: “There is an ageing population both nationally and locally, and the need for elderly care accommodation is growing rapidly.

“This location would be suitable due to its proximity to community facilities, and short distance from Lincoln city centre.

“Considering the increasing need for elderly housing options, the introduction of this Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered 59-bed care home in Lincoln will significantly ease this pressure both for the local council and the NHS.”

The plans include communal dining and lounge areas for residents, as well as patios and outdoor recreational spaces.

It would also extend the nearby medical practice’s car park and would contribute £21,000 to help it meet any increased demand.

Several objections have been received from people living immediately around the site on Cathedral View Court, with several asking that fhe building be two-storeys instead of three.

Others expressed concerns that the GP surgery was already “overstretched, and this would surely only exacerbate the situation”.

City of Lincoln Council’s report says the application is “carefully considered” and the technical details “are well developed and deal with any issues”.

It is recommended that it be given approval at the planning committee on Wednesday, February 26, on the condition that construction starts within three years.
