New traffic enforcement rules outside Lincoln school to combat ‘abandoned’ cars

New traffic enforcement rules have been brought in to tackle parking chaos around a school.

Students are said to be ‘abandoning’ their vehicles around the Priory Academy LSST on Cross O’Cliff Hill, Lincoln, blocking footpaths and driveways, according to a local councillor.

Residents are reportedly forced to walk onto the road to get around parked vehicles.

Lincolnshire County Council’s planning committee agreed new regulations to stop nuisance parking around the academy on Monday (February 10).

Waiting will be banned at any time on Cross O’Cliff Hill near the top entrance on both sides of the road.

It will also be restricted between Monday and Friday, 8am to 6pm further up the road and on nearby residential Cross O’Cliff Close.

Coun Kevin Clarke (Lab) urged action at the meeting after seeing the problem for himself.

“There are five schools in my ward in Boultham, and there are major parking issues outside four of them,” he told the committee.

“It’s unfair on residents when verges are churned up, and paths and driveways are blocked.

“Cars were not exactly parked on the footpath – they were abandoned by students from the nearby school.

“This makes residents walk on the road.

“The junction of the Hill and the Close is unbelievable as you have to pull onto the Hill to see traffic when cars are blocking the view, which is so dangerous.”

A report by the council warned that on-street parking was also causing a problem for HGVs using the route.

The Priory Academy Trust, which runs LSST, has been contacted for comment.
