Lincolnshire Police make arrests in Lincoln on night of rumoured riots




Arrests have been made as a crowd starts to gather in Lincoln tonight (Wednesday, August 7) for rumoured protests.

Earlier, Local Democracy Reporter Ellis Karran shared photos of the Carlton Centre in Lincoln, where protests had been rumoured to take place.

He has since reported that three men have been arrested - two amid reports of damage to a police vehicle.

More response vehicles have arrived at the Carlton Centre now.

Earlier today, Lincolnshire Police issued a dispersal order has been put in place for the Carlton Boulevard in Lincoln, which runs until midday tomorrow (Thursday, August 8).

The Section 34 order covers a 500-metre radius from the Carlton Boulevard and enables officers to remove people where necessary to prevent disorder and to reduce disruption in the area.

Police have also carried out patrols in the area today. Some businesses also closed early as a precaution.

It is understood there is also a police presence at the Lincoln Central Mosque in Dixon Street, along with anti-hate campaigners.

Among the peaceful small gathering is Lincoln MP Hamish Falconer (Lab), who shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the city was “united”.
