‘With great sadness’ police name seven-year-old who died following collision near Metheringham on Friday
A seven-year-old girl who died following a collision on Friday has been named.
Lincolnshire Police are now appealing for witnesses to help with their enquiries following the death of Elsie Gascoigne, who was a passenger when a blue Kia Rio and white Citroen Relay collided on the B1202, Metheringham Health Lane, which runs between the A15 and the B1188 near Metheringham.
“It is with great sadness that we can now name the child who sadly died in the collision on Metheringham Heath Lane on the evening of Friday, January 3 as seven-year-old Elsie Gascoigne,” a police statement said.
“The family is being supported by specially-trained officers and we ask that members of the public respect their privacy at this tragic time.”
Elsie, whose family live in Metheringham, tragically sustained serious injuries in the collision and was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, but sadly died just before 4.30am on Saturday morning.
A fundraiser to support the family with funeral costs has been launched online, and can be donated to here.
“We continue to ask for help from anyone who may have been driving along the B1202 at a similar time to the incident, particularly if you witnessed or captured any footage of the incident itself or saw either a blue Kia Rio, a white Citroen Relay or any other vehicles along that road,” the police statement added.
