The company launched its Melton Mowbray tour in March 2024, and is the current holder of the Best New Tourism Business category in the Go Leicestershire Hospitality and Tourism Awards 2024.

The tour, spanning three hours, takes small groups to different venues and locations around the historic city. Pairings are made of the finest local produce while telling the history of some of the best known foods in Britain - as well as some hidden surprises.

From classic foods such as the sausages that have taken Lincoln’s name around the world, to new food businesses based in the city, the tour introduces guests to the wide range of food and drink produced in Lincoln and the surrounding area, and tells the stories behind them.

The Lincoln Tour launches on Saturday, May 10, and will take place on the second Saturday of each month throughout the year. Priced at £75 per person, the tour visits six different venues and offers a unique opportunity to taste delicious local produce and hear fascinating stories about how these foods have been produced, developed and enjoyed in the local area from Roman times to the present day.

Hidden Food Tours founders Charla Forinton and Matt Hall are based in neighbouring Leicestershire and are both keen foodies with a passion for local produce and the history of the East Midlands.

Matt said: “We started Hidden Food Tours because we love to find and tell the stories behind some of Britain’s best known foods. Charla and I spend ages swapping recipes and tipping each other off about new foodie finds. After the success of the Melton tour we were looking for the best place to bring the idea of a walking food tour and Lincoln, with its amazing history and fantastic food culture, was the natural place to come next.”

Charla added: “Whenever I visit a new city I always try to find a food tour to join. They’re a great way of discovering the local food and history of a place and we want to bring that excitement to Lincoln. Hearing the stories behind the food, be it the world famous sausages, or the echoes of the food culture of the Roman soldiers who once colonised the city, will bring the history of Lincoln alive.”

Known for its traditional offerings of Lincolnshire sausages and award winning local cheeses, Lincoln has more recently become a food destination. From its famous farmers market to the award winning Cheese Society, from the restaurant scene to its bustling street food market, Lincoln is rapidly becoming a foodie destination for weekend visitors.

Hidden Food Tours aims to introduce Lincoln as an evolving culinary destination by celebrating local producers - and connecting guests with the city’s rich history. With a strategic approach to marketing and strong partnerships, the business seeks to carve a niche in the growing local food tourism industry.
