Lincoln United host Deal Town in the FA Vase
Lincoln United will be aiming to create FA Vase history for the Ashby Avenue club on Saturday.
The Whites host Deal Town in a quarter-final clash looking to secure their place in the last four for the first time ever.
Lincoln last reached the quarter-final stage in the inaugural season of the FA Vase competition in 1974/75.
And manager Chris Furnell is hoping the city's footballing fraternity turns out in force to help his side take another step closer to Wembley.
He said: "The Vase is exciting for everyone at the football club, all the players and staff, because of where the tournament finishes.
"We would love to pack out Ashby Avenue on Saturday because Deal are coming a long way and we want as many people here as possible.
"It's not very often that you get a team within your own city who has the opportunity to get to the latter stages of a national competition.
"With Lincoln City playing away on Saturday, if we can get as many people here as possible that would be fantastic."
The Whites host a Deal side who won the FA Vase in 2000 and are currently in third place in the Southern Counties East League Premier Division with a number of games in hand on the two sides above them.
Lincoln go into the match on an indifferent run of United Counties League form having lost 4-1 at Loughborough Students last weekend.
They then needed a late leveller to earn a share of the spoils in their midweek match with Eastwood CFC on Tuesday night.
Furnell is welcoming a break from league action this weekend but feels the Vase has become a distraction for his players.
He added: "It gives us a chance to take a break from the league this weekend and focus on another competition which I feel is needed.
"We need to be ready to go in what will be a really tough game.
"I can't help but feel though that the FA Vase is a little bit of a distraction and has taken away from the bread and butter.
"Our worst run of form has come since the latter stages of the Vase. That could tie in with the fact that we've played a lot of games.
"Let's hope we can turn it around and win on Saturday because we want to go as far as we can in every competition. That has been my mantra from the outset."
Lincoln handed debuts to Paul Grimes and Jaime Ture in their midweek match with Eastwood where all of the goals came in the second half.
The Whites had spurned several chances in the first period with Brad Wells hitting the crossbar and Evan Payne looping a header just over.
Aaron O'Connor then missed a penalty for the visitors before Payne was denied late in the half by a save from Eastwood goalkeeper Sam Wilson.
The visitors took a 54th minute lead through a rebound from Koby Eratt-Thompson but Lincoln levelled midway through the half when Jack McMenemy finished well.
Eastwood retook the lead 10 minutes from time through Chris Robertson whose header beats Jack Steggles in the United net.
But the drama wasn't finished there as the game was all square again two minutes from time through Jake Park to earn the Whites their first draw of the season.
Furnell added: "I was disappointed because it felt like two points dropped.
"We were good for 75 percent of the first half and had some really good opportunities to take the lead.
"The second half was very gritty and there wasn't a huge amount of football played."
