Uppingham Community College pupils celebrate 105th anniversary

Teenagers took part in a charity walk to celebrate their school’s 105th anniversary after the pandemic scuppered their centenary plans five years ago.

More than 700 pupils from Uppingham Community College tackeld the 10.5km route through Uppingham, Bisbrooke, Seaton and Lyddington in rising temperatures on Friday last week.

They were waved off by the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness, the county’s High Sheriff, Richard Chesterfield and Uppingham mayor Dave Ainslie.

Head of school David Anderson said: “The event was a real triumph. It was a great day all round and the students walked (and even ran) with enthusiasm.

“More than 100 of them helped to run charity stalls once back at school and we celebrated the school’s 105th birthday in style with some former staff and students joining us too."

Donations can still be made online at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ucc105 with £3,000 raised so far.
