Oakham Canal restoration group, in Rutland, appeal for ‘canal rangers’

A group looking to enhance a town’s green space would like to hear from walkers who would like to tidy up as they go.

The Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project is looking to revive an idea which encouraged people to carry out light maintenance as they walk the pathways along the canal.

Oakham Canal Rangers could carry a pair of secateurs and snip off unruly branches hanging over the paths, or pick up litter, or report problems they see to the group.

The group would like hear from previous rangers or those who would like to sign up by emailing: oakhamcanal@gmail.com

“For various reasons, we have lost touch with our Ranger community and we’d like to correct that,” said projects officer Paul Cundy.

“Rangers form a valuable addition to our team effort, so we’d love to hear from you again, or anew.”
