RAF centenary exhibition a flying success
An exhibition to celebrate the centenary of the Royal Air Force (RAF) was viewed by several hundred people, many of whom had served during its 100-year existence.
The Royal Air Force 100th Anniversary Exhibition, which ran from March 17 to May 12, was held at Oakham library.
It was arranged by members of the Royal Air Force Association Rutland (RAFA).
One of the highlights was a children’s “Free Flight Competition” which saw parents, grandparents and friends joining children in making a variety of paper aircraft, parachutes and RAF Badges.
Local shops donated prizes, which went to the competition’s winners while each child that entered was presented with windmills and stickers.
RAFA member Sonia Sutton was the lucky draw winner of a RAF100 Emma Bridgewater Mug.
RAFA Rutland members and Rutland County Museum staff thanked everyone who contributed to the successful exhibition.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to The RAF100 nominated charities.
RAFA Rutland Branch was formed in July 1949.
The aim of organisation is to promote the welfare of all serving and former members of the RAF, their spouses and dependants, together with the widows and widowers and dependants of those who died while serving.
The association meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the Cottesmore Sports and Social club.
