Uppingham and District Twinning Association appeals for new members to join its partnership with Caudebec-en-Caux in France
A twinning association hopes to encourage new families and children to join its activities.
Uppingham and District Twinning Association is hosting an open afternoon for people to find out more about what the group does.
It has held links with the French town of Caudebec-en-Caux in Normandy since 1982 and hosts regular trips between the two countries.
People do not have to live in Uppingham or speak French to join the association and they can choose between only travelling to France, only hosting guests in the UK, or both.
Group member Henry Dawe said: “We look forward to welcoming guests of all ages and are especially keen to meet families where the children could form lasting pen pal links.
“At our most recent trip to Caudebec in the autumn, children from the English and French sides came together and formed a happy bond. We would love to extend connections like this to other families.
“The exchange brings significant benefits to parents and their children. It is a great opportunity for young people to make real and lasting connections with pen pals in Caudebec which will broaden their horizons and improve their language skills.
“Families who have taken part in the exchange previously have spoken warmly of the relationships that they have developed with their partners.”
The open afternoon takes place on Saturday, May 10 at Uppingham Town Hall from 3-5pm. Visitors can find out more about the group and view memorabilia from past visits. There will also be a children’s raffle and activities.
Later in the year the group will host a treasure hunt on Saturday, June 21 and a quiz night on Friday, September 5.
