The Bowmen of Rutland holds open day at Greetham Valley Golf Club




An archery club hopes to hit new targets by recruiting members.

The Bowmen of Rutland is encouraging people to give the sport a shot this Start Archery Week, which runs until May 12.

An open day was held at the club’s summer ground at Greetham Valley Golf Club yesterday (Sunday, May 5) to give people of all ages the chance to try archery, and receive tips from the coaches.

The Bowmen of Rutland has been running for 46 years and has members of all abilities, who take part in archery each week.

“Aside from its brilliant social appeal, archery has many health benefits for both body and mind and it’s for everyone, regardless of physical ability,” said Chrissie Mortlock, the club secretary.

“This year’s nationwide event is shining a light on the mental health benefits of archery and how the sport can help people’s minds as well as their bodies.

“It can support increased mindfulness, enhance mental and emotional wellbeing, reduce stress and boost confidence as well as developing strength and fitness.”
