Rutland County Council approves plans for caravan and camping site in Manton, near Rutland Water

Plans for a caravan and camping site have been approved despite more than a dozen objections.

Permission has been sought from Rutland County Council to allow up to 20 static and touring caravans along with tent pitches, on land off Cemetery Lane in Manton.

A number of similar planning applications have been submitted for the site since 2012, some of which were approved while others were refused.

The plots in the latest plans mirror what was approved in 2017, which includes 13 for static caravans and seven for touring caravans with 20 camping pitches.

More than a dozen objections to the plans were lodged raising points about Cemetery Lane being ‘an unsuitable road for caravans’, noise levels, and enforcement relating to the site being only used for holiday purposes.

Residents also referred to there being several other camping sites around Rutland Water including at the Horse and Jockey pub, which is on the same road, Lyndon Top, Wing Hall, Edith Weston and Hambleton.

Despite this, planning officers gave the go-ahead for the site to be used for caravans and camping.
