Oakham Banking Hub signs win approval of town council

Signs for a bank, a holly tree and a hair salon were among items discussed by a town council yesterday (Tuesday, June 26).

Oakham Town Council recreation, planning and general purposes committee gave the thumbs up to new signs at the Banking Hub at 43 High Street Oakham.

The application is for the new branding, which replaced the former Lloyds Bank branding in April.

The committee also gave its approval to an application for the removal of an ancient holly tree and the killing of its root system.

The tree has been pushing a dry stone wall out of place with the risk of collapse onto path at Castle Garden Cottage in Church Passage, Oakham. Members voted by majority to back the application.

An application was also received positively to return a building used as a hairdressing salon to a home at 37B Northgate Oakham.

The property at number 37 had originally been two houses, with the front of 37B having been a salon for some years.

The committee’s views will now be considered by Rutland County Council, which determines the outcome of planning applications in the county.

The next meeting of Oakham Town Council recreation, planning and general purposes committee is on July 24.
