Rutland Local History and Record Society publishes 44th journal
A history society has published its 44th annual journal.
In the latest edition of the Rutland Record historian David Roffe focuses on the early medieval settlement of Bradcroft on the western outskirts of Stamford.
It it thought to have been a hamlet which was occupied before the Norman Conquest of 1066 but deserted by the mid 15th century.
The second article is written by Jemima Hubberstey, a research officer for Historic Royal Palaces, and looks at the life of Lady Margaret Heathcote who was connected to the Bluestocking Circle of female writers. She married the Rutland aristocrat Gilbert Heathcote and moved to Stocken after the wedding.
The final article focuses on the musician Sir Malcolm Sargent whose parents lived in Stamford.
Chairman of the Rutland Local History and Record Society, Ian Ryder, said: “Once again we are so grateful for the expertise of our contributors and their special interest in Rutland’s long and varied history.”
