Aqua Park Rutland, near Oakham, raises over £1,500 during Drowning Prevention Week

A water park has teamed up with a lifesaving charity to raise awareness around water safety – all while raising more than £1,500.

Aqua Park Rutland, near Oakham, raised the money by hosting a special two-hour dip session during Drowning Prevention Week last month.

Fifty per cent of donations went to The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK), which promotes water safety and drowning prevention, particularly among school-age children.

Connor James, founder of the water park, said: “We are delighted to have partnered with RLSS UK again for Drowning Prevention Week.

“This year, we’ve received incredible support from our visitors and exceeded our fundraising target.

“The funds raised are ring-fenced to support local initiatives. Our senior lifeguards have delivered water safety talks at four local schools.

“We hope this not only keep young people safe in and around open water, but also inspires the next generation of lifeguards as part of our commitment to the community.”

Visitors to the water park also had the chance to see live CPR demonstrations and ask questions about staying safe in water.

The funding will help RLSS reach 10 schools near Aqua Park locations to teach children about water safety.
