Wing Wildings Nursery in Rutland rated good by Ofsted
A children’s nursery with a strong focus on learning outdoors has been praised by Ofsted at the end of its first year.
Wing Wildlings Nursery opened last November on the site of a working farm at Wing Hall in Rutland.
An inspection last month found the nursery to be good across all areas including the quality of its education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and management.
The children have regular access to the working farm and forest school facilities.
Nursery manager Ellie Cliff said: “This achievement reflects the dedication, hard work and passion of our entire team, as well as the wonderful support from our families and community.
“We are so proud to have our commitment to providing a nurturing, engaging and high-quality environment for our children recognised with a vast amount of outside space and access to farm and forest school sessions. Here’s to continuing to grow and thrive together.”
Ofsted inspector Kate Scheel noted that children are warmly welcomed and given the opportunity to choose their own play activities.
She said: “There is a strong focus on helping children to develop essential skills in all areas of learning through outdoor experiences. This enables children to develop a deep appreciation of the natural world and foster respect for living things.
“They delight in freely exploring the environment.”
The report also highlights the high quality teaching overall but asks staff to make sure all children gain the most from their learning experiences. They should also be more consistent when helping children to manage their behaviour.
A new baby room catering for children from nine months old is due to open at the nursery by Easter.
