Rutland’s open garden 2024 season starts on March 17
A new season of open garden events begins this weekend with plenty of spectacular scenes to view during the summer months.
The National Garden Scheme encourages people to throw open their garden gates and showcase their efforts to the public.
The owners of Gunthorpe Hall will kick off the season in Rutland on Sunday (March 17).
The large country garden has five distinct areas – a lawn with mulberry, cherry and lime tress; a lawn leading to the ha-ha with a southerly panorama and new tulip border; a croquet lawn with herbaceous and late-summer borders; a large kitchen garden with long border, and an old orchard planted with extensive drifts of daffodils.
Gunthorpe Hall is located off the A6003, around a mile-and-a-half to the south of Oakham. It will open on Sunday (March 17) from 2-5pm. Admission is £5 (children free) with a plant stall and refreshments on sale. Cash and card payments will be accepted.
