Anglian Water upgrade at Wing water recycling centre will improve safety for wildlife
Watercourses are to become safer for wildlife thanks to a £1.4 million project.
Anglian Water is upgrading the equipment at its water recycling centre in Wing.
It will allow more phosphorus to be removed from waste water which in turn will improve the river water quality nearby.
Work is due to start this month and will be completed by the summer.
Spokesperson Regan Harris said: “We’re really pleased these upgrades will help to protect nearby rivers and increase our resilience to climate change by making sure waste water is treated to an even higher standard before it is returned to the natural environment.
“We know how important rivers and the wider environment are to our local communities which is why we’ve committed through our Get River Positive programme that our recycling processes will not harm rivers.”
Phosphorous is widely used in soaps and cleaning products but it can be harmful to wildlife when it reaches watercourses. The new equipment will remove more phosphorous and harmful algae growth.
Customers should not be affected by the work taking place at the centre off Bottom Street.
