Don Paddy’s in Uppingham Market Place to reopen after refurbishment

A town bar and restaurant is reopening after an extensive refurbishment which will keep it ‘fit for purpose for the next 20 years’.

Don Paddy’s in Uppingham Market Place has been run by the Wills family for more than two decades.

It shut its doors for the first time, excluding the pandemic closures, in January to allow for ‘a facelift’ and will be reopening tomorrow (Saturday, April 20).

Director James Torbell said: “Don Paddy’s has served us well as a business, and it was about time that we made sure that the building itself had a bit of TLC.

“While plumbing and electrics are not glamorous, it’s essential that we keep this listed building fit for purpose for the next 20 years - longevity in hospitality is not always a given but we are fortunate enough to have this in our sights.”

Local contractors and suppliers were brought in for the renovation, which was also a priority when the Wills family invested in The Falcon Hotel in 2011.

Carol Wills, co-owner, said: “We always want our projects to be supported by our locality, and in turn we support local wherever we can.”

Though it was the plumbing and electrics which had the biggest overhaul, a fresh look has also been given to the interior of Don Paddy’s.

The first floor has the most significant change with the creation of a lounge, with its own bar, and two restaurant spaces with booths, which can also be hired out privately.

Philippa Wills, co-owner, said: “We want to create spaces with impact, but without losing the charm and quirkiness which Don Paddy’s itself as a building naturally has.”

A new menu has also been created for its reopening.
