The highest drink-drive reading was 109 micrograms per 100ml of breath, more than three times the legal limit of 25mcg.

In total, eight of the Rutland drink-drive arrests - more than a third - found drivers to be at least twice the legal limit.

Last year’s 23 drink-drive arrests were down on the 32 made in 2023 and 29 in 2022.

There were 23 arrests in 2021 and 27 in 2020.

The vast majority of the drink-drivers arrested were men, 20 of the 23, whereas one male and one female were arrested last year for drug driving.

Motorists found with illegal substances in their system was just a third of the six arrests made in 2023.

Two drug-drive arrests were made in 2022, one in 2021 and four in 2020.

Last year a further two drivers suspected of being behind the wheel while under the influence of either drink or drugs refused to give police a sample.
