Plans to extend St Nicholas Primary School in Cottesmore and Whissendine Primary School, Rutland

Plans have been put forward for extensions at two primary schools.

St Nicholas Primary School in Cottesmore and Whissendine Primary School, which are both part of the Rutland Learning Trust, have applications to build new extensions which will house a new reception area and meeting spaces.

Last month plans were lodged with the Rutland County Council for a lawful development certificate, which means the schemes could be approved without going through the usual planning application process.

A spokesperson for Rutland Learning Trust said it has applied for Government money to fund the work and the council application is a precursor to the scheme. The money has not as yet been secured from the funding pot.

The plans are almost identical and include a new reception area with seating, a meeting room and new toilets.

The spokesperson said: “The main reason for the extensions are for safeguarding and accessibility.”

The new arrangement will allow visitors to come into the school and have meetings with staff without having to access the main body of the school.

Whissendine rated as outstanding in its last Ofsted report was and St Nicholas as good. The trust is led by chief executive Rob Gooding.
